Understanding the Quadrants
The chart below plots each industry on two dimensions. The horizontal axis shows whether an industry is adding or losing jobs right now — how fast employment is growing or shrinking over the most recent three months. The vertical axis shows whether that rate of change is speeding up or slowing down compared to six months ago. Together they place each industry into one of four quadrants:
Stabilizing
The industry is losing jobs, but the losses are slowing down. Conditions are still negative but trending in a better direction.
Strengthening
The industry is adding jobs and the pace of hiring is speeding up. Both direction and trend are positive.
Deteriorating
The industry is losing jobs and the losses are getting worse. Both direction and trend are negative.
Cooling
The industry is still adding jobs, but the pace of hiring has slowed. Growth is positive but decelerating.
